Holy Detours
Sometimes we make choices for all the wrong reasons that ultimately produce all the right consequences. Sometimes we go on holy detours. I'm thinking about this because someone very dear to me is suffering a little because of choices made in the past. It is causing some deep soul-searching as certain "self-confidences" are being questioned and slowly replaced by "God-confidences". This is not an easy process especially if you don't really understand what is going on. It just seems like the whole world is being turned upside down on you. The things you used to know, you no longer know. The things you used to trust, give way under the weight of your fear. The things you used to hope in no longer seem able to deliver...etc. Many of us have experienced the disorienting effect of a holy detour. We've felt lost, out of touch, out of hope, only to eventually round the corner and find ourselves in a land full of promise. It really isn't all that unusual...just ask Moses and Joshua.
