Just when I thought we'd depleted all our demos, David busts his knee (real good) and gets laid up and has nothing better to do than go through his archive of old tapes. (I'll tell you more about David's knee in a minute.) He sent me a CD yesterday, and the very first one made me smile, because it is the original demo that David did of "Can't Satisfy." It's just David, and I admit it is hard to listen to it and not think I ruined it by adding vocals. Not only that, but David was so rushed when we did the actual record that we really didn't capture the performance he gave on this demo. But that's why we have the Vault! Nothing shall be forgotten - good (like this) or bad (like some other things that may end up here if I can find the courage.)

Now, about David's knee...

A couple months or so ago, David forgot that he isn't 18 years old anymore and leapt from a stage. When he landed on the hard, hard floor his knee sorta bent the wrong way. This is how he described it..." On Friday, I was working up at our new church building and jumped off the stage (4 feet) to go get a tool. My left knee dislocated when I landed and collapsed inward. I am now in a velcro cast awaiting my fate." When I wrote back asking if he'd passed out, he wrote, "I continued to black out for about 10 minutes. When I finally stood up, I leaned my head against the stage. The next thing I remember, I was on my back with my friend asking me if I could hear him. Passed out again." He had surgery on Feb 28 to repair a torn ACL, torn MCL, and a torn meniscus. They had to graft a section of his hamstring to repair the ACL. Not very much fun to say the least.

So, keep him in your prayers while you listen to his beautiful song. Maybe he'll write some more for the next Strawmen album while he's laid up.
